  有的名词形式上是单数，但表示复数含义，其谓语动词要用复数。如第一句的people，people泛指“人”，“人们”，不用冠词。例如：people here speak English（这里的人说英语。）如指“人民”则要加定冠词the。例如：

  类似这样的词常见的有police（警察），例如：

  这里需要加派警察。
  表示一个一个的警察，用a police man（男警察），a police woman（女警察）。
  有的名词形式上是复数，但表示单数含义，其谓语动词要用单数。第二句的physics。带有-ics 结尾的名词，多为科学中的学科名，如：mathematics（数学）, politics（政治），还有news（消息）等。例如：

  数学是一门重要的课程。
